Waikiki Eulachacha

No. of episodes: 20 (each episode approx. 1 hour long)

This show is pure comedy, starting from the funny story line, to the comical timing and acting skills of the characters and to the very fact how every normal situation in their lives turns out to be a scene of pure laughter, is what makes the show one of the best in the k-drama comedy genre.

Sol made our heart flutter

The show started with three bachelors and one of their sister, staying in Waikiki guesthouse as the owner, who were desperately trying to earn money in order to make their dream movie and go on a lavish vacation to Hawaii. Suddenly, a baby girl (Sol) lands up on their doorstep and ends up becoming a part of their lives. She is a total rockstar throughout the series, making the audience go ‘aww’ with her cute laugh and smile. The cast is also very promising, with Kim Jung-hyun (Dong-goo) and Lee Yi-kyung (Joon-ki) making us laugh with their funny dialogue delivery and acting skills (they act with their expressions). The rest of the cast adds more funny elements to the show, be it Ko Won-hee (Seo-jin) with her ‘Chewbacca’ looks, Lee Joo-woo (Soo-ah) with her interfering personality, Son Seung-won (Doo-sik) with his amateur feelings or Jung In-sun (Yoon-ah) with her clumsy activities. The show tells a quite ordinary story of people’s struggle to fulfill their dreams but the outcome of every action becomes unpredictable.

The scene where Joon-ki and Doo-sik go for medical trials

One highlight of the show is the brotherhood between the three male characters, which is shown in numerous episodes. The one where Joon-ki and Doo-sik are shown to be playing pranks on others like kids and how Doo-sik gets upset when the other decides not to play along with him, because of a promise he made to ‘Bacca’. Then there is another episode where Dong-goo was angry at Joon-ki for dating Seo-jin but could not stay angry for long, when he realised that they are truly in love and how good he will be for Seo-jin.

The series also focuses on how the six of them turn into couples after staying together in the Waikiki guest house and spending time together. Joon-ki and Seo-jin were the first ones to fall in love, although they had to hide their relation because of Dong-goo’s reaction, in the end everything turned out fine and their dates were as funny as ever. In the case of Dong-goo and Yoon-ah, after numerous attempts, they finally started going out on dates. Both of them looked the cutest together, each trying to act like the grown-up one in the relationship and the connection between Don-goo and Sol was something to look out for. Soo-ah had started feeling for Doo-sik ever since they started managing the company together but she realized her feelings later when he started going on dates with others, in search of his one true love. In the last episode, Doo-sik and Soo-ah finally realize that their months long bickering has lead them to like each other.

Waikiki couples

In the last few minutes of the finale episode, it was shown how even after being able to shoot their dream movie, the six were behaving like kids, fighting, pulling each others legs and cursing each other but their connection was stronger than ever.
