Heya readers, today Diya will be reporting to you’ll on the drama ‘Mouse’

Mouse has provided the audience with a mix of fantasy and science content and it made me more curious to figure out what’s feasible in the reality and what not! So I’ll be taking up this issue today and discuss on 5 such topics.

Beware:: Major Spoilers on the drama will be covered in the blog

The logic behind identifying psychopaths just by their genes has been proven baseless (by most researchers), so this also disregards the link between a psychopath and a genius. One of the common things between a psychopath and a genius is their lack of social skills (geniuses lack of it at times), which might be the reason for this confusion. However, psychopathy has been proven to be linked with genetics and is considered to be hereditary as well. Researchers believe that psychopaths have a gene known as MAOA-L which increases the risk of violence and antisocial behaviour in a person.

Although this gene can be present in both genders, males are found to be more affected by it than females, due to the chromosome combination. Every human who has an MAOA-L gene can be considered to be tending towards psychopathy, however, not all of them show violent behaviour. Some common traits to test such a person are pathological lying, lack of emotions, superficial charm, hypersexuality and lack of startle reflex (do not react to gory things like other humans). Also, a person’s childhood and upbringing can someway trigger the onset of this behaviour and make it even scarier.

Even though psychopathy might have a link to genetics, judging psychos based on their gene structure is not the right thing to do like the presence of a gene can never justify/explain the reason for their heinous crimes.

This is another myth shown in the drama, as well as thought by society. Many believe that psychopaths are not born but made, so the environment they grow up in has a lot of effects. In the drama initially, it was highlighted how Han Seo Joon’s kid is a psychopath like his father, but later the plot twists. Most of the articles I searched up stated that there is no official evidence about any family of a serial killer, but if the parent is harsh and fixated on making their offspring someone similar, then this will have a severe effect on the child. This example was also shown in dramas like IONTBO and Flower of Evil.

Psychopaths lack emotions and they never regret their selfish behaviour and the effect it on their family. They treat their children as their property and expect them to obey every order of theirs, which has a severe effect on the kids. The children grow up thinking that they cannot have their own happiness and always need to serve their father/mother. This behaviour is a psychopath is called the Dark Triad Personality (DTP), which promotes their love for themselves and makes them think that their offspring is like a trophy they won.

Most of the times serial killers gel with the members of the society, they try to camouflage themselves by having a normal family, a common job and a friendly personality. This not only helps them in getting close to their potential targets but also removes them from the suspect list later on. There have been instances when after the revelation of the murderer, the family and friends of the killer got to know their true personality.

After reviewing various cases of serial killers, researchers have concluded that these psychopaths mostly have a friendly and charming personality which attracts people towards them. However, the fact that such murderers are geniuses with high IQ is mostly a myth. Most of them had an IQ ranging from average to below average, and the ones with superintelligence were rare. However, they do have organized and disorganised killers as the differentiation. Organized ones are meticulous and try to clean the crime place completely, whereas the disorganised ones are less careful on this matter.

Well, serial killers are considered to be psychopaths, so let’s start with the part if psychos can turn into normal human beings. What these guys lack is feeling or emotions towards others and this indicates a lot about their brain structure. Multiple types of research showed that psychopaths cannot understand or feel pain for someone else, ’cause that emotional connection is not produced in their brain cells. They do feel pain if someone hits them, but when another person is hit in front of them, they just feel nothing.

Now since serial killers feel no guilt or remorse, they don’t feel the need to stop their killings, but there are a few cases where the killer actually came to the police and admitted to their crimes. Even some cases have been there where the killers begged for a death sentence, ’cause they felt if they are let out they will kill someone else and this spree can’t be stopped by himself. So, is it guilt feeling felt by them? Not exactly, they are scared of their own selves, scared to realise that killing has become their addiction and only external force can stop it.

Well, I did not get much info on the memory loss part, but there have been few instances where the serial killer had amnesia due to severe health conditions (stroke) to a point where he could not remember any crime he committed. As a result, the court found it unreasonable to put him on death row and gave him mercy on the basis of humanity.

To date, there has not been a registered case of successful brain surgery on a human being. This is one of those surgeries which if becomes successful can turn the history of medical sciences. Several animal (living) brain surgeries have been performed but unfortunately, none of them was successful. But in Mouse, it was shown that not only the first unofficial human brain surgery was successful but the recipient was healthy and went back to his killing spree.

Now the matter of having hallucinations due to a brain transplant has shown some mention in research papers as well (not practical). The person whose brain has been taken for the operation, their memories might continue to remain in the new body. Hence, it is possible for the recipient to get confused and mistake them for their own memories, so ‘Mouse’ has based this theory on proper research as well. This is one of the reasons why the donor's details are not disclosed to the recipient, also there have been proven cases of change in heart and personality after receiving a heart and other transplants.
