Diya is back with a blog on one of my past finished 2022 dramas, Our Blues. Although it didn’t gain much hype, I’m sure there’s a specific audience who could really feel related to it. The drama had some seasoned actors and actresses, heartwarming scenes, strong characters, and relatable stories.

My favorite part of the drama was its name — Our Blues. At first, it seemed like the name was given because the drama was based on the lives of people living on Jeju Island around the sea. However, once you start it, you realize they named it after ‘the Blues’ (melancholy, sadness, mundane life and events) they go through to sustain.

Here are a few topics which the drama reminded us of….

!Read at your own risk! Spoilers!

Communication is the key to a happy and peaceful life. I deeply believe this. Dong Seok and Seon-a’s relationship also showed the power of communication. They had left on a sour note and met after a decade. When they met, they didn’t ask each other their whereabouts and just wanted to live in the present but your mind never ceases to stop thinking. But once Dong seok decided to know why Seon-a did all of that to him, there was no turning back. After clearing the misunderstanding, each had a big burden lifted from their shoulders and could finally continue from where they left.

This drama gave us chance to watch some of the veteran actors and actresses of old times. Now this has been quite common in other dramas too, so what’s special here? Well their roles are new, different, unique and unexpected. Who do we have here?Lee Jung-eun from Strangers from Hell, Cha seung-won from Korean Odyssey, Lee Byung-hyun from Iris! The characters these actors portrayed showed their youthful energy, the kid inside them, and made us realise just because they are old doesn’t mean they don’t like to have some fun. They made me laugh and smile more than the younger generation, it was a feel-good emotion!!

The episode with Yeong-ok and Yeong-Hui said alot. Anyone who watched the drama knows about Yeong-Hui’s special case, how she was unique than many of us. The sisters although been twins were different from each other, their lifestyle, their thought process, but the common thing was their love for each other.

The episode started by showing how rudely Yeong-ok treated her sister, how she almost abandoned her sister, it made us see her in a judgmental way. But the truth was she did it for Yeong-hui’s betterment, so that she can have a less painful life, as a ‘normal human being’ (cause many in the drama thought her to be weird and scary and what not!!!!) who will be loved and treated with respect and have a hope in the future for living like a normal person.

They are no less than moms when it comes to loving their children. They can be of all sorts, hard nut to crack, super serious, soft hearted or indifferent. That’s just the way they are, or they were forced to become after all of a sudden getting the responsibility to manage a kid. They need to earn for their kids, take care of their necessities, and many a times let go of their own dreams. So in the drama when both the dads reacted after realizing the baby situation, it was not unexpected.

Yeon-Ju’s appa did not want her to suffer as he did, he wanted her to lead the life he had worked hard and made for her. Whereas Hyeon’s appa realized he is not mature enough to have a kid at this age, and him leaving his studies for being a dad was a scary situation. He wanted his son to become educated and successful so that he can lead a respectful life. Both the dads cared a lot about their kid’s well-being, happiness, and future and eventually sacrificed a lot for their happiness.

Overall the drama was a good one, probably not in my top favorites but I loved seeing these many good actors from the industry on one screen. Their experience made the watch even better, they did bring a smile to my face :)
