Dogs are known to be human’s best friend, the most loyal member of your family who loves you unconditionally and waits for you to come home.
Let us love all dogs and not only stick to the good breeds
They love us without any condition, they stay happy if we are happy! A smile on your face, those 5 minutes you spend with them before leaving for work, the unannounced footsteps from your car, hearing your voice from far away- all of this brings a smile to their goofy face. They just want us to spend some time with them, to love them, to feed them and to play with them.
‘Humans, please don’t categorize us depending on our breed, we want love too!’ - from the stray dog who lives in-front of your building.
Why should the dog lover or dog parents adopt the Indies?
They need you like nobody else and you have the privilege to provide them your warmth.
India currently as more than 30 million stray dogs on the streets, with no one to own them. However, some organizations and social media influencers have taken up the responsibility to help them get adopted. Every gesture helps, it is not necessary that you have to have them at your home. You may not be able to take them back to your house, instead provide them with proper food and shelter as much as possible. You never know, how much that pat on their head, a packet of biscuits, those left-over foods mean to them. They will love you for it, forever.
I would not be listing any reasons to influence your decision in adopting an Indie. It always depends from person to person. The dog owner may have had a dream of owning a German Shepherd or Golden Retriever or any other breed for that reason, since their childhood. It is not wrong to own a well-breed dog but to differentiate between the dog breeds is WRONG! And still calling yourselves a dog lover is even worse. It’s like loving your child and other children of similar status and cursing the ones who are below you.
Just like the above, there are cases where dog lovers make sure to adopt the stray dogs in order to provide them a safe home and a good future. But adopting an Indie is not easy. Specially, if you are adopting dogs who are more than 1 year old.
Here as some reasons as to WHAT CAN BE TROUBLESOME-
1. Grown up dogs have lived in a different environment (roads), with no one to look out for them, no one to provide for them and no home to come back to. So, they may show resistance in staying all day at home or coming back home after their walk. This happens because, they find the streets more familiar and have not yet adjusted to the idea of a home.
2. They may not be as obedient as other breed dogs and will throw tantrums when the owners try to pet them or train them. Give them sometime, they need their space too to adjust and get accustomed to the new people. Eventually, they will warm up to you and your family and follow you around like other dogs.
3. The Indies are not used to following orders, so they may be resistant to what you ask them to do, not eat food when offered, bite you when you try to play with them, stay grumpy or sad and not respond to you. All this can be resolved with time and love. Show them that they are in a safe environment, train them in order to understand right and wrong behavior, be patient with them.
