Hello Readers!

Recently I started watching the series ‘Crash course in Romance’ and I must say, I’m loving it. Starting from the story concept to the cast to the thrills you get, everything is bang on. Also, this drama covers a lot of interesting topics in almost every episode and they made me a lot curious. So here’s sharing my curiosity with everyone.

*********** Spoilers Ahead*************

Sleep disorder or insomnia is very common among people of old age and ones who are suffering from stress and change in lifestyle. In this case, Mr. Choi was suffering from stress and anxiety for which he couldn’t fall asleep so he started continuing his sleeping pills for good sleep as his days and nights are stressful.

Going with the eating disorder, this is something new to me. Usually, we see in dramas that FLs throw up food after eating to maintain their body shape and weight, but here the ML was unintentionally throwing up whatever food he was eating. He felt weak and stressed out, at times hungry too but couldn’t taste or digest the food. At one point he mentioned that the food is tasteless and feels like paper. This condition is called anorexia when you can’t even eat properly because of stress or anxiety.

All of us Kdrama fans must have heard this word once during our fan journey. Most of us might be knowing this already, but here’s another repeat course on ‘Banchan’. It is basically a side dish that is fresh, simple, and healthy to eat with rice. Koreans love their rice, so to add on top of it there are these fresh vegetables that add to the crunch and also make your heart and body happy.

Some of the famous banchan we might have heard of are seasoned soybean sprouts, pickled radish, stir-fried cucumber, cucumber salad, fermented vegetables, fish cake, etc. There’s a history that Banchan became popular during the AD era when Buddhism had an influence in Korea, so vegetables became common as eating meat was discouraged.

Loneliness can be considered in two ways, some who enjoy it, and some who have gotten used to it. For Mr. Choi, it was the latter. Due to his busy work schedule, he had no sense of time, his sleep and eating cycle was a mess, and he did not have time to socialize or find love, hence all of this led to loneliness. Since he loved his work so much he made it his priority, trained his mind not to miss having friends, and forced himself to get used to being by himself.

But every human being craves some company, and it was no different with Mr. Choi. When he wanted to hang out with his old friends and colleagues he realized that they did not enjoy the company as much as he did. This is because he was out of touch with them, when they earlier reached out to him he was always busy and so he became a stranger to them. I was glad that towards the end of the show, he finally came out of his shell and became happier by putting himself first.

It’s a variation of Autism with higher functionality than autistic individuals but having restrictions in communicating and socializing. The person having this syndrome can think and realize like a normal person however the way they express and talk can look odd to individuals. In the drama as well such a misunderstanding happened when Jae-Woo was misunderstood by a Cafe employee and was arrested for harassing them.

Individuals suffering from this syndrome can live a normal life but it’s best for them to have a close acquaintance who understands their needs and feelings well.

Korean's obsession with getting into a good university is not unknown to any fan. We have seen these scenes repeatedly in many dramas how the parents push their kids to the last bit which they call the motivational push to get into the SKY universities (Seoul-Korea-Yonsei). In this drama also the parents (especially the moms) did anything possible to make a clear way for their kids be it getting them the best tutor, to best seats in cram school, getting past year papers getting them the actual exam papers.

There were many instances when the kids got worried over the parents’ obsession with making them get into a renowned university and called it out in different ways. I still don’t understand how can parents think less of their kid's mental health and go on pushing them until they ‘almost’ end their life.

Most of the dramas that I have watched focus on teenage romance or young romance which is restricted to people in their 30–35s. But this one had a lot of middle-aged romance and the writer made sure not to add any teenage romance in it to take away their thunder.

The love was complicated due to their family situations but it was as innocent as it can be, the way Mr. Choi behaved like a lost boy when he was initially trying to figure out his feelings seemed very genuine to me. The way Hae-Sung reacted when Choi followed her around everywhere was cute as well, she blushed and was flustered. I really enjoyed this romance. Oh, and we should not forget Yeong-ju and Jae-Woo too!

Sometimes too much adoration can lead to obsession with the person and in weeks it can take over your brain. The drama also showed us an exact transformation from a fan to a stalker. When you start obsessing over someone, you keep on thinking about them day in and out, and you try your level best to do the best for them expecting that they are happy with you and return the favor. These appreciations take over your mind and you keep on crossing the line and take decisions for that person by yourself, until the person sees through your obsession and no longer wants to be associated with your behavior or you in the worst cases.
