10 K-dramas I have watched- Part 2
Here, is my second list of 10 K-dramas, which I had watched last year. Hope you enjoy reading about them :)
- The Liar and His Lover (2017)
Genre: Romance, Music
What I liked: The story revolves around a boy band, so there is a lot of nice songs and music. I loved this part of the show. Also, I found Lee Hyun-woo’s character to be very cute and simple-minded but his chemistry with Joy could have been better, something was lacking in that aspect. I found it to be an interesting show, with few magic moments but the story line could have been a bit more gripping and the lead selection might not be that great.
My rating: 7/10 (Music lovers, especially K-pop fans will like it as it has a lot of the usual fan-following and idol scenes.)
2. Lie to Me (2011)
Genre: Romance, Comedy
What I liked: I loved Yoon Eun-hye’s character, she was so cute. Kang Ji-hwan on the other hand seemed a bit old for her and there was not much spark between the couple. The story line was interesting at the beginning but gradually I started losing interest.
My rating: 7/10 (It’s definitely worth a one time watch. Decide whether to proceed or drop after watching a few episodes.)
3. Cheese in the trap (2016)
Genre: Drama, Romance
What I liked: I liked the characters of this show more than the story. Had a big SLS on Kang-joon, Sung-kyung was so good at being the bad girl but she looked so damn pretty. About the lead pair, I felt they had no chemistry at all. Go-eun’s character was very sheepish whereas Park Hae-jin’s character was too old and boring for her. Honestly, had the leads and ending been different, the drama would have felt much much better.
My rating: 6.5/10 (Maybe extra 0.5 for Kang-joon and Sung-kyung! Watch the drama for these two definitely.)
4. Playful Kiss (2010)
Genre: Romantic-comedy, drama
What I liked: I liked the story line, the whole transition of love story from school to college and as they grow mature, how their feelings and relation changes. I found Oh Ha-ni to be cute but did not really like Baek Seung-jo, felt she could have done better. Maybe the story and the characters were meant to be like this but I could not connect with them. I felt irritated at times, seeing how hard she’s trying to woo him and how badly he’s treated her. The drama is from 2010 and I watched it in 2019. Maybe, that’s why the difference in thought process.
My rating: 6.5/10 (It could have been a sweet love story, can try a one time watch.)
5. My Girlfriend is a Gumiho (2010)
Genre: Fantasy, Romance
What I liked: I am not really a fan of fantasy dramas but gave it a watch because of a friend’s suggestion. Honestly speaking, this was one of the best Fantasy k-dramas I’ve watched so far. Shin Min-a and Lee Seung-gi looked perfect and the cutest in this one, it was like they were born for this role. I started adoring Shin Min-a after this show, she looked the cutest, prettiest, innocent girl, on whom you can never be angry. Also, their famous dialogue: “domu domu domu domu domu domu domu domu domu domu domu domu chua :D”, can’t really forget this one.
My rating: 9/10 (Please watch this one, if you are looking for a Fantasy drama or a sweet love story. You will surely like it.)
6. Cinderella and the Four Knights (2016)
Genre: Drama, Romance
What I liked: The story line was interesting, unique and that’s why I started watching it initially. However, with time the plot became repetitive and it was difficult for me to continue completing it. The female lead was okayish but the one she ended up with, they had no chemistry together. However, the one she rejected, they had better chemistry. So I cannot help but wonder, maybe if the male characters were switched, the story would have been better and more interesting.
My rating: 7/10 (Can watch it for the story line, it’s different and unique.)
7. Memories of the Alhambra (2018)
Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Sci-fi
What I liked: The story line was brilliant, haven’t seen such an innovative drama ever. The whole idea of the video game theme and Shin-hye, Hyun Bin as leads got me into this drama. Loved the locations too. The leads are my favorites, so I really could not find much not to like. The ending was a cliffhanger, so I assumed that it might be a happy one. There was lots of mystery in this one, I did not feel bored at all.
My rating: 9/10 (Not a full 10, cause overall I have seen better dramas as well. High recommendation for Shin-hye and Hyun Bin fans and also for VR and gaming fans.)
8. Secret Garden (2010)
Genre: Romance, drama
What I liked: I started this one because of Hyun Bin, right after finishing Memories of the Alhambra. Honestly, I’ve seen him act better and felt that comedy was not his thing. The characters played by the leads were good in their own way but the chemistry was a little off. The story line was good however, specially the one revolving Gil Ra-im’s character, the tough life of stunt-women in the industry.
My rating: 7.5 (Watch it for the unique story line, give it a try if you are a Hyun Bin fan.)
9. Her Private Life (2019)
Genre: Idol fandom, Romantic-comedy
What I liked: I started watching it because of Park Min-young, loved her in Secretary Kim. I found this show’s vibe similar to that of What’s wrong with Secretary Kim- the whole boss-secretary romance. However, I liked her chemistry better with Seo-joon. One of the highlight of this show for me was the whole fandom craze. I’m a BTS army, so it felt like seeing her character like that, felt connected to her and those idol-fan scenes.
My rating: 8/10 (Watch it for Min-young or if you like Boss-secretary romance or for the idol-fan craze scenes. It is definitely worth watching.)
10. When the Camellia Blooms (2019)
Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Romance
What I liked: This is one of my favorite mystery K-drama and definitely my favorite among the 2019 ones. Loved Gong Hyo-jin, she’s a versatile actress, making her characters so believable. Kang Ha-neul on the other hand proved his acting skills in this one, he was funny, romantic and serious at the same time. Both the leads had amazing chemistry and the story was just the right level of creepy and mysterious. This show is definitely underrated and deserves more appreciation.
My rating: 9/10 (A must watch! Specially for mystery and thriller fans.)
